In 1974 Margaret and Liam Kane returned to Athy where Liam originally hailed from, and took over the running of the public house formerly known as The Railway Hotel.

Thirty five years later the pub is still a family affair offering a warm welcome and crackling fire in the heart of Athy.

Liam and his sons, Mark, Paul and Myles are keen anglers, and Kane’s soon became the home of the Athy and District Angling Club.

Down the years Athy Pitch and Putt Club, Athy Musical and Dramatic Society and Castlemitchell Gun Club frequently used Kane’s facilities to host their events.
